Baraza Resort and Spa, Tanzania

For those who have not been to Zanzibar, or are looking for an excuse to go back, why not visit the Baraza Resort and Spa on the South Eastern coast of Zanzibar. The idyllic resort is the ultimate luxurious treat, incomparable to other resorts in Africa or around the world.

Baraza is one of the most exclusive resorts in Zanzibar and is located on Bwejuu – Paje beach. Conde Nast Traveler magazine named Bwejuu – Paje one of the top 30 beaches in the world, and the Baraza one of the 60 best new hotels in the world in 2012. The resort was also chosen as one of the Top 25 hotels in the world at the 2016 TripAdvisor Traveller’s Choice Awards.

The five star, fully inclusive resort, is designed with the hope of invoking the heritage of Zanzibar going back to the time of Sultans. There is a beautiful fusion of Arabic, Indian and Swahili design, with Swahili arches, hand carved cement decor and beautiful antique handmade furniture that come together to create a picturesque hotel set in 70 acres of land planted with multicoloured bougainvillaea, jasmine and frangipani.

Whilst the resort is ideal for a romantic getaway for couples, it is also a great place for family vacations. Kids can play on the sand and relish the natural environment and ocean air. Alternatively they can take advantage of the Baraza Kids Club, a fully equipped club with a variety of toys, games, writing materials and activities perfect for the little ones. There is supervised care for potty trained kids aged 4 to 12, and younger children can use the club if they have a parent or guardian accompanying them. The club is in an air conditioned area with coaches, lounges, tables and bean bags to make them comfortable. They can play ping pong, table football, children’s pool, enjoy the wii or watch a movie from the library of children’s movies.

The resort’s Frangipani Spa is an oasis, complete with outdoor relaxation rooms, a lap pool with underwater music, incredible treatments and a yoga centre designed to stimulate your senses, and help you relax and unwind. Baraza’s professional therapists, who come from Thailand, Bali and India, offer a wide range of specialised massage techniques.

Each of the resort’s suites has a private pool and veranda, living room, and a spacious bathroom with a shower and pond sized bath.  There are 30 bedroom villas, all hand designed with marble, copper and dark woods throughout.

With an array of activities that take advantage of its waterside location, and great quality service, Baraza Resort and Spa is the perfect place for families or couples looking to enjoy some time by the beach in the best resort Zanzibar has to offer.
